Prospective Brother,
On behalf of Delta Sigma Phi at Shorter College I would like to welcome you to the beginning of fraternity recruitment. I’d also like to thank you for your interest and participation in Greek life. This is an exciting time for us as a brotherhood and I hope you share our excitement as we get to meet and learn about each other.
In the fall of 1992 a local fraternity named Zeta Rho was started at Shorter College under the motto, “Unity Through Diversity”. Eleven years later, in 2003 that local fraternity colonized under the national leadership of Delta Sigma Phi. Since that time, brothers have also adopted Delta Sigma Phi’s motto, “Better Men, Better Lives”.
As a national fraternity we have been founded on the core values of culture, harmony and friendship, but we have not forgotten our roots. We recognize that our diversity and differences are what gives strength to our bond in brotherhood.
Shorter has a lot to offer, but the friendship, dedication and loyalty that can be seen in the brothers of Delta Sig cannot be found anywhere else on campus. This week I encourage you to look for our true colors, ask questions, and make sure know what you are getting yourself into.
Almost two years ago now, I stood with three choices in front of me exactly where each of you stand today. Hopefully you will choose one of the fraternities that you will meet this week, eliminating the third choice. I hope that you enjoy this week, see what brotherhood is all about, meet lifelong friends, and choose to pledge the fraternity that fits you best. The choice I made two years ago has been the best decision I’ve made in college, and I hope that you look back on your choice with the same happiness.
Will Boney
Vice President of Recruitment
What is Delta Sig?
Delta Sig is an eternal brotherhood of men that strives towards the same ideals of Culture, Harmony, and Friendship.
We are brothers who come together to socialize, work in the community, develop leadership, promote scholarship, improve religious spirituality, and rely on one another for a lifetime.
From the outside looking in, Delta Sig appears to be an incredibly close group of men who enjoy each other's company and support more than anything in the world.
What do we do?
Delta Sigs are always together with their brothers. Whether its a community service project or simply playing video games in a brother's apartment, our brothers spent the majority of their time together.

What is Pledging?
[size]
The purpose of our pledge process is to familiarize prospective members with our history, fraternity policies, and active members. It requires new members to attend study hours, weekly pledge meetings, along with many other fraternity events such as socials.
At Delta Sigma Phi, we expect the best from our prospective members. New members are expected to prove their interests and dedication by participating in events, working on pledge class projects and by meeting and making new friends with the active members of our fraternity.
Although pledging does require a certain amount of commitment time, it does not take up all of your free time and we work around academic and extra-curricular schedules. Our pledge process teaches time management, one of the most important qualities one must learn to succeed in college.

Delta Sigma Phi is a haze free organization and therefore our pledges will not be subjected to such acts. We believe that the pledge process should be a period for prospective members to get to know their pledge brothers, active members, and more about themselves as individuals. We hold high standards for our pledges and expect them to do everything to the best of their ability as they represent our fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi.
AcademicsAt Delta Sigma Phi, academics come first. You are attending Shorter College to learn. We do our best to make sure pledges are attaining the best grades possible. We conduct grade checks periodically and pledges are required to attend study hours on a weekly basis. In order to initiate, pledges are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.5. If a pledge does not make the required GPA, he will not initiate that semester and will be held over until he satisfies the requirement.
LeadershipLeadership is a very important aspect of fraternity life. We want our pledges to gain leadership opportunities as soon as possible. Each pledge class is given the opportunity to elect an executive board to run their pledge class much like our own fraternity is run. Not only does this help build leadership skills, but it also helps pledges to understand how a fraternity is run.
ActivitiesAlthough pledges are not yet members of our fraternity, they are still able to attend almost all of our events. Pledges are encouraged to participate in our sorority mixers, fundraisers, community projects and intramural sports teams, along with the many other social events we throw throughout the year.
